Corals are essential parts of the coral reef ecosystem and play an important role in a healthy climate. However, currently, coral reefs around the world are being threatened due to human actions and the effects of climate change. Various (non-profit) organizations worldwide are putting their efforts into ‘coral regeneration’ to try to prevent the degradation of coral reefs. They cultivate corals in ‘nurseries’, usually in the open sea, and ultimately plant them out to help improve the health of coral reefs.
To help support the efforts of these non-profits, Hyper Epic is teaming up with BRANCH Coral Foundation and Mark IJzerman to develop ‘Coral AI’ (working title). The aim of ‘Coral AI’ is to research the application of new interaction and storytelling technologies in garnering support for coral regeneration efforts. The Creatives Industries Fund NL has decided to fund the first phase of this research, as part of the Fresh Perspectives program. We start in July! More info soon.
